Ford Otosan Romania

In July 2022 Ford of Europe officially transferred ownership of its Romanian plant to Ford Otosan. This agreement strengthens Ford Otosan’s position as the largest commercial vehicle producer in Europe and expands its operations internationally to create sustainable value to its shareholders. With the addition of the Craiova plant, Ford Otosan’s total annual production capacity will exceed 900,000 vehicles.

Ford Otosan, the Ford joint venture in which Ford and Koç Holding are majority shareholders, is one of the longest running and most successful joint ventures in the global auto industry. Ford Otosan (Ford Otomotiv Sanayi A.Ş.), is a publicly traded (18%) company, where Ford Motor Company* (41%) and Koç Holding A.Ş. (41%) have equal shares, being one of the top three exporting companies in Turkey since 2004. The company achieved 12 consecutive years of automotive industry championship and is Türkiye goods product export champion for 8 years in a row.

Ford Otosan operates in 4 main centers with its Gölcük and Yeniköy Plants in Kocaeli, Eskişehir Plant in Eskişehir, Sancaktepe R&D Center and Spare Parts Warehouse in İstanbul and Craiova Plant in Romania and employs more than 20,000 people. Ford Otosan is the most valuable automotive company in Borsa İstanbul.

Ford Otosan Craiova is a key player in the Romanian automotive industry, distinguished as the first in the country to produce hybrid vehicles and soon to manufacture full electric vehicles. The Craiova facility operates two plants: a vehicle operations facility and an engines production facility, where the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine is produced. This engine has been recognized as the international engine of the year, earning over 10 international awards. To date, Craiova has manufactured over 2 million engines and over 1.4 million vehicles.

As a significant industrial enterprise, Ford Otosan Craiova employs 6,400 people and is Romania's second-largest exporter. With a vehicle production capacity of 272,000 units and an engine capacity of 350,000 units, the company plans to launch all-electric versions of the Courier and Puma in 2024, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable mobility. Ford Otosan Craiova will produce 3 of Ford's 9 electric vehicle models planned for Europe.
